All That Glitters – Gold Cakes

I recently made my first all gold cake, for a wedding at The Decorium in North London. An all gold cake may seem over the top to some people, but this one matched the venue perfectly. The design of your cake should always compliment the venue it will be displayed in, remember the entire setting rather than thinking of he cake as a stand alone item.

Ordering a gold cake however isn’t as simple as it sounds. There are many many different shades of gold and picking the right one is just as important as the design itself. I’ve never quite found the right shade off the shelf and mix my own. This means I can tailor it to tie in to the other elements of the wedding.

If you are going to order a gold cake always check with your cake artist that you are on the same page in terms of the colour, is it a warm gold, a cool gold, or even a coffee gold. Colour matching will never be exact as we are limited to the products available, but you can certainly narrow it down to the right tone.
